Assistant Production Manager – Glasshouse & Growing Operations
Help us grow more than herbs.
At Lincolnshire Herbs, we don't operate a traditional factory.
We grow, harvest, pack and dispatch millions of living herbs every year, managing the entire process from seed to customer.
We're looking for an Assistant Production Manager to become the right-hand person to our Production Manager and play a key role in leading our Living Herbs operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone from a horticulture, glasshouse, fresh produce, agriculture, farming or FMCG background who enjoys combining people leadership, operational planning and crop management in a fast-moving environment.
The Role
You'll support the day-to-day management of our Living Herbs operation, overseeing activities from:
🌱 Sowing
🌿 Planting
🚜 Growing & Crop Care
✂️ Harvesting
📦 Packing
🚚 Dispatch
Working closely with the Production Manager, you'll help ensure the operation delivers customer requirements safely, efficiently and profitably whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and plant health.
No two days are the same.
Customer orders can change at short notice, crop growth can be influenced by environmental conditions, and priorities can shift quickly. You'll need to think ahead, make sound decisions under pressure and ensure resources are deployed where they add the greatest value.
What You'll Be Doing
Supporting the Production Manager in the day-to-day running of the Living Herbs operation
Leading and developing teams across sowing, planting, harvesting, packing and dispatch
Planning and reallocating labour to meet changing operational demands
Monitoring crop readiness and supporting decisions around harvesting and production priorities
Working closely with Commercial, Technical, Engineering and Planning teams
Supporting forecasting, capacity planning and labour planning activities
Driving improvements in efficiency, productivity and profitability
Championing health & safety, food safety and quality standards
Supporting customer audits and site visits
Acting as deputy for the Production Manager during periods of absence
We're Looking For Someone Who
Has experience within horticulture, farming, fresh produce, agriculture, glasshouse operations or food production
Enjoys leading people and developing high-performing teams
Can remain calm and organised when priorities change
Thinks ahead and anticipates problems before they arise
Has strong planning and organisational skills
Understands how labour, productivity and crop performance impact profitability
Is confident making decisions and taking ownership
Wants to develop into a senior operational leadership role

At Lincolnshire Herbs Ltd, we're looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to join our Operations Team. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the highest standards of health and safety across our growing, production, packing and storage operations, while helping to embed a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the business.
🔍 Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement and continuously improve our Safety Management System.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation, regulations and company policies.
• Lead site-wide audits, inspections and risk assessments, identifying opportunities to reduce risk and improve performance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and effective corrective actions implemented.
• Drive behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects across all departments.
• Monitor and report on Health & Safety KPIs, using data and trends to support business improvement.
• Chair monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings and communicate key safety messages throughout the business.
• Manage contractor safety, including permits to work, inductions and risk assessments.
• Support engineering and capital projects to ensure Health & Safety requirements are considered throughout project delivery.
• Line manage and support the Training Coordinator, ensuring all mandatory compliance, health and safety training programmes are effectively delivered and maintained.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other external stakeholders as required.🤝 You'll Work Closely With

• External Contractors and Regulatory Bodies🌟 What We're Looking For
• NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum (Diploma desirable).
• Previous experience in a Health & Safety management or senior advisory role.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
• Experience within manufacturing, food production, agriculture, horticulture or FMCG environments would be advantageous.
• Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong auditing, investigation and problem-solving abilities.
