Our Focus
At Lincolnshire Herbs, we believe that ethical responsibility means more than just meeting standards—it’s about leading with integrity, care, and purpose in everything we do. We focus on four key areas: the environment, our people, the community, and our values.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through sustainable growing practices, energy-efficient technology, and resource-conscious innovation. We support and empower our people by fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace where everyone can thrive. In our community, we actively engage with local partners, contribute to regional development, and promote long-term positive change. Above all, we operate with transparency, honesty, and a deep respect for the natural world and those who depend on it.
These responsibilities guide every decision we make and define how we grow—with purpose, for the future.
Environment
At Lincolnshire Herbs, sustainability isn’t a statement—it’s a strategy. We’ve made significant investments to reduce our environmental footprint while improving efficiency across every part of our operation:
Ground Source Heat Pump
A £1.4 million investment delivering a 58% carbon reduction and 50% cost savings in glasshouse heating.
Robotic Automation
Advanced automation in sowing and pot packing enhances efficiency while reducing waste and manual handling.
£1.7 Million LED Growing System
Installed in late 2023, delivering major electricity savings through modern, energy-efficient lighting technology.
Rainwater Harvesting
We meet 100% of our glasshouse irrigation needs using harvested rainwater—all from natural sources.
Recycling Commitment
100% of our green waste is supplied to a local farmer for use in natural soil improvement. We recycle plastic and cardboard used in our operations to reduce landfill waste.
Leaf Marque Certification
Proudly awarded since November 2023, recognising our sustainable farming practices and environmental responsibility.
Not your typical glasshouse
At Lincolnshire Herbs, we're redefining sustainable herb production with innovative, energy-efficient technology:
Geothermal groundsource heating – We're the only commercial glasshouse in the UK to develop and implement this groundbreaking renewable energy system.
On-site reservoir and borehole – Reduces reliance on mains water and supports sustainable irrigation practices.
LED overhead lighting – Integrated into our energy efficiency upgrade to reduce power consumption and improve yield.
PRIVA climate control system – Delivers precision environmental management for optimal growth conditions year-round.
Year-round “grow for cut” capability – Originally developed for basil, now successfully expanding to a wider range of fresh herb varieties.
We don’t just grow herbs—we innovate, conserve, and lead the way in modern horticulture.
Investing in a greener future
At Lincolnshire Herbs, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our drive for energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, we’ve replaced all seven sections of our traditional glasshouse lighting with 2,767 advanced overhead LED lights.
Key Benefits:
25%+ reduction in energy consumption
Improved efficiency, throughput, and crop yield
Consistent year-round herb quality
Lower maintenance and improved reliability
This major upgrade reflects our commitment to cutting-edge, eco-conscious farming practices—helping us grow fresher, better herbs with a lighter environmental footprint.
Plastic Reduction
We are actively working towards reducing plastic across all our products. As part of this ongoing commitment, we are trialling a range of sustainable solutions, including lighter-weight materials, increased use of recycled content, and exploring compostable and bio-based alternatives. We continue to enhance the recyclability of our packaging.
Environmental Monitoring
Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond infrastructure. We continually monitor, measure, and refine our practices to ensure long-term impact:
Partnership with Natural England
We participate in soil and ecosystem biodiversity surveys, contributing valuable data to the UK Government’s long-term environmental commitment plans.
Energy Efficiency Monitoring
Our engineers conduct night and late-shift “switch-off walks” to ensure all machinery, lighting, and equipment are powered down during downtime, minimising unnecessary energy use.
Emissions Tracking
We actively measure and report our Scope 1 and 2 net (market-based) emissions across the business to maintain transparency and accountability as we work toward lower-carbon operations.
Peat-free growing
Reducing and replacing peat is an important step in minimising our environmental impact.
At Lincolnshire Herbs, we’re proactively responding by trialling a range of peat-free alternatives that maintain our high standards for quality while promoting sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
